Yes indeed, you are missing something.

Just because he is seeking the U.S help doesn't mean the U.S wants to help him. The U.S helped bringing down Aristide because of his capabilities of bringing a better life to Haiti.

Haiti is the last country in the U.S mind.

The U.S seem not to like anybody that can stand up to them. Castro for example.

In 1915 U.S invadede Haiti and seized all the valuable assets, if that wasn't enough, they forced Haiti into a contract of twenty more years, they single handedly killed hundred of thousands of civilians.

Is he smart for taking pictures with all them boys, Yes.
