Colette;

You said: "many Technocrats...are only...'technocretins.'" That was very funny, and accurate.

Yes indeed, in Haiti we have so many people pretending to know everything about everything.

I wrote a long post about that once before.

That is exactly one of the reasons I worry about this PM's qualifications.

Most people in Haiti simply cannot say no when offered a position they know they can't do. Others just lie to themselves and tell themselves "anybody can do this." The fact is that there are so few opportunities for financial gain in Haiti, that when an opportunity presents itself, even if the person knows they are not qualified for the position being offered, they hurry and say "yes I can," when in fact they know they cannot.

As for this PM, it is still too soon to tell.

I tend to think that she has the heart but not the qualification, and that she is one of those people who just could not say no. There are some simple things that if she qualified for this position she would have known to do. Something as simple as selecting ahead of time her advisers; those people who should be helping her right now to make important decisions, she did not do.

But that is the past, and I will forgive her this first mistake and move on.

The question now is, will she be smart enough to put the right people next to her to help her make the right decisions for the country; or will she do like all the others before her and get all her family and friends, who know nothing, into positions to make money while the making is good.

Will she choose a fiscal management adviser who has shown that they can run a large company and make it work for both the owners AND THE WORKERS.

If she cannot find someone like that in Haiti, will she be smart enough to search and find someone in the diaspora.

Will she have the savvy to hire someone who can represent Haiti internationally and not embarrass us like Preval has on so many occasions.

Will she stop the corruption and the fiscal irresponsibility by placing people in her government who genuinely care about the nation, and have a reputation for being un-corruptible.

I know a few of those people, so I know that they exist and if she wants to find them she can.

Anyway, to conclude, I am willing to give this PM a chance to prove herself.

However, I wont give her as much time as I gave to that simpleton, spineless, inferior being that is now our president.

I like that she arrested the builders or owners of the building that collapsed on these children.

Doing that shows that she cares.

Now let see if she also has vision.

For example, will she pass sweeping laws that will prevent this from happening again.

Or, will she send out building instructors to inspect all schools built after the Duvalier regime, to make sure they are up to code.

Will she fine those schools that don't meet a minimum standard.

That's a good way for the state to make money--if they don't turn it into a racket as they do everything else.

There are many larger steps to be put into place right now.

Will she have the vision to do so?

Only time will tell.

As I told you in my last post:

Respect is something that is earned.
