Tiba, you said:

"Progressive and competent governments never ban an old practice without first providing an alternative, a new practice to the people.

To stop the people from cutting down the trees, the government must first provide an alternative of combustible to the people, a new effective way to prepare their meals."

I said:

"it is about time the government took some measures to stop it [deforestation]."

I think your suggestion is a great alternative, and your idea of the government subsidizing the cost to get these kerosene stoves is a great idea.

I didn't go in details to explain what the Haitian government must do or what steps it must take but, unless we are dealing with complete idiots, of course there need to be alternative before measures are taken to stop deforestation.

I know people who have gas ovens in Haiti yet they still use charcoal to cook in the little "cuisine" out back.

I am assuming it's because charbon is cheaper than propane.

Unless the Haitian government commits to make alternative ways of cooking much cheaper than wood burning, you are right, nou fek kare boule bwa.

for example I always hear "pa je te fatra nan lari-a" but there are no garbage trucks out there picking up the trash in the over populated run down neighborhoods.

The Haitian government and the Haitian people now know the price of deforestation.

We need a government that can think for Haiti and it's citizens, not a government who is waiting for the worst to happen so they can beg "konimote entenasyonal la" on behalf of the Haitian people after disaster strike.
