As usual, certain political forces around the world tend to demonize anything good a lesser nation may have. Papa Doc was not a dictator but a forceful leader who knew how to deal with certain layers of the nation of Haiti.

Whether those segments were poor or rich, good or bad, black or mulatto.

When dealing with a despondent, irresponsive, misinformed and miseducated people, one has to use a solid right hand. During Papa Doc's Administration, Haiti flourishes limitedly, a sense of honor still existed: there were no "Zenglendo", no "Pe Lebrun", no "Kidnapping", five gourdes equalled one American dollar, etc. I could go on and on with a very long list of what I grew up with after Papa Doc came to power.

I also acknowledge that there were a lot of wrongdoings as well, as exist in any other society.

The problems of Haiti were and are not essentially internal, external influences played and still play a major role in twarting off the country's progresses.

Such as money coming from North American entities and others, to finance countless coup-d'etats that contributed to the demise of this sovereign island.

I was not a big fan of Papa Doc because I wanted better for Haiti.

But I never considered him to be a part of Haiti's problems.

It's all to the contrary when one takes the time to analyze deeply the various facets of how things happen in Haiti.

That's all I can offer to you. I hope this is helpful.
