Not many folks know that Haiti was actaully the first democratic republic in the New World. I think that a lot of Dominicans would alos like to go back to Tortuga if is were opened to settlement. I remember that the ton ton macoutes held their power by controlling the charcaol trade. We had a place north of Port Au Prince (about 22 km, I think. I can't remember the name of the little town/village/settlement) that got broken into. We hired Ton Ton Charlie to check into it. Several days later a body was found close to there, and no more breakins! Man, what memories!
