Dessalines: The good old days weren't so good for everyone and the future is not as bad as it seems.
Our beloved Haiti is in a state of decline since the second civil war of 1806 (Petion vs Christophe).
Off course Haiti was better off during the Duvalier years than today.
But this argument is meaningless since it is a country in a state of decline; in other words it's like a line with a negative slope.
It does not matter where you measure the slope along the line, the slope will be always be the same negative magnitude.
So despite what the Duvalier regime built inside Haiti the whole Haitian economy was clandestinely declining just as much as it was under Soulouque, under Michel Domingue, under Salnave, under the ephemerous presidents and so forth...
Across the past 200+ years, Haiti went from riches to rags; it does not matter what regime you look at. You gotta look at the agregate data.
Are most of the Haitian families better off in 1985 than they were in 1957? If that the answer is no, since it is a resounding NO then Duvalier's projects bear no fruits for Haiti.
Thanks
