HAITI'S ECONOMIC ISSUES

Search for:

HAITI ECONOMIC ISSUES: Population (2006 census): 8.5 million **
At the end is a Video 1. that explains how the United States World Bank gives money to countries to build the infrastructure to facilitate US Corporations.

Video 2 Economic Hit Men (pic of Duvalier in there and about Haiti) Let us learn and get wise.

Perkins have two (better) books out and audio books about economic hit men.
This following Information is mostly based on an excerpt from US gov info about Haiti.
Economy
About one of every eight Haitians lives abroad: Large-scale emigration mostly to the United States but also to Canada, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, other Caribbean neighbors, and France have created a Diaspora known as The Tenth Department.

The diaspora remittances are estimated at approximately $1.65 billion (people sending money to family members) help keeping the Haitian economy afloat.

The U.S. has been Haiti's largest donor(but it comes with a price).

The World Bank has pledged $1.085 billion for Haiti as of March 2006, $965 million had been disbursed, mainly to address humanitarian needs.
For additional information on establishing a business in Haiti can be found at export.gov.; go to market research, then Country Commercial Guides.
DANGER: (That I see)
HAITI IS MAKING A MISTAKE BY ACCEPTING LOANS FROM IMF:
1. In November 2006, Haiti was approved for an International Monetary Fund (IMF) Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF).
2. A number of U.S. firms, including commercial banks, telecommunications, airlines are present in Haiti.

( Haiti should own its own banks, airline, and telecommunication industry) Haiti is being sold to foreign investors.
3. Foreign investment protection was provided by the Haitian Constitution of 1987
i.e which permits expropriation of private property for public use or land reform with payment in advance.(taking private citizens land against their will for foreign investors) 4. One of the U.S. Key policy toward Haiti is designed to counter illegal migration.

US coast guards provide assistance and training to the Haitian Coast Guard for migrant interdiction.

Haiti is helping the US curtail Haitian immigration to the United states which help Haiti's economy, how ironic.

Economic problems: According to the US.
Haiti remains the least-developed country in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world.

Haiti's economic stagnation is the result of earlier inappropriate economic policies, political instability, under-capitalization, a lack of education (Only 10% of Haitians speak French most Haitians speak Creole which is not spoken by investors from the major industrialized countries) Furthermore migration of large portions of the skilled population, a weak national savings rate, and the lack of a functioning judicial system, in conjunction with the failure of the governments to invest in developing the country's natural and human resources have contributed to the current state of underdevelopment.

Haiti has been plagued for decades by extremely high unemployment and underemployment.

The biggest hurdles for businesses in Haiti include poor infrastructure, a high-cost port,an irregular supply of electricity, and Customs delays.

Here are the videos.
