i totally agree that our kids need to know the country that their parents came from but haiti’s condition does not permit this to happen now. let me just say, without going into details, that until recently when a close relative of mines fell victim to the kidnapping phenomenon there, i had no problem visiting haiti.
i know haiti in not the only country in this situation and that if i love my country i cannot turn my back on it completely but for the same reason we work hard here to provide for our family, we can’t afford want to place them in harms way—literally.
this argument is not just for our children but people like us, u.s. citizens, canadians, and the illegal immigrants living here and beyond who can’t live in peace where they are but can’t survive in haiti.
it’s apparent that whatever the solution is, it's not easy, and while i agree with you that each individual should evaluate the situation and decide how they can help, i’ve often thought that if we as a people can figure out what is it that we(haitian people) do best, invest in that, market it within our communities(here, in haiti, and beyond), then we would have taken a step closer to unity and financial stability.
but then again sometimes i can be a bona fide idealist.
we recently got back from haiti, four days ago. i'll get right to the point. yes, haiti and haitian people (country) living in haiti have a lot of problems, alot of things needs to be done for the country. if you haven't been to haiti recently, you will be shock (in every sense of the word) to see your country in such condition. my trip open my eyes and heart, to see how fortunate we are to live and have our childen here in the us. as haitians living abroad, we need to go back home and see for ourselves what is going on, not from the news. do take the trip with your kids, they also need to see their country. with the help of our kids we came up with a lot of ideas to help haiti.
we all know what's going on in haiti, lets get together and help the country. for now, evaluate the situation for yourself and decide how you can help in your own way before getting involve with others.

are the militants shooting blanks, tear gas, or real bullets?
if they are shooting real bullets, that is something fierce.
what, when, and where(the u.s, haiti, canada, etc.) will haitians come together, take a stand, and make a change. i personally don’t know where to start. as a haitian i struggle with haiti’s condition of all the time. i pray about this but god hasn’t seen fit to direct me, yet. i don’t want my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren not to see the land of their ancestors but with the direction of my country, and the people who makes up the country, i don’t see other options.
i would like to hear ideas from everyone but i’m particularly interested in hearing from you if you’re a young adult, born in haiti, but raised in the u.s. please comment.
