Michaelle Jean Believes Haiti Is Better Now Governor General Michaelle Jean described traumatic, blood-soaked memories from her childhood as she told a Haitian audience how their country has, in some ways, changed for the better. Michaelle Jean's father was tortured by the security forces of the Duvalier regime, forcing the family to flee as refugees and leaving him emotionally damaged. Michaelle Jean arrived in Haiti on Thursday, she is leaving today, Sunday January 18, 2009. Governor General Michaelle Jean visited Haitian cities like Les Cayes and Ennery. Michaelle Jean will also seek ways to help reduce Haiti's poverty and put in place democracy initiatives. Governor General Michaelle Jean was accompanied by her husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond on her second trip to Haiti. We no longer have Duvalier's killing sprees with guns and machetes, instead now we have Preval's killing machine of starvation. Jee, I wonder if this can really be called "better?" I guess if you're not one of those that are starving you can't see the parallel.
